Homeschooling and Learning Piano
If you’re looking to add music to your homeschool curriculum, consider using the Pianomarvel.com app. The only caveat is you need I digital keyboard that has MIDI capability. Most digital keyboards these days have aport in USB port in the back which is a midi connection. Once you have the keyboard your homeschooler is ready to learn.
The great thing about this app is how quickly one can learn playing piano. My daughter who is 11 and my son who is 12 are both learning the piano. I am pleased with the progress that both have made in such a short time.
Alouette After Only Sixty Days
She has not played every day for 60 days, but her progress is still impressive. She dedicates about 30 minutes a day, four days a week.
In the video you can see how Pianomarvel works. There is sheet music on the screen. The piano keyboard is connected to the computer. The student follows along with the interactive sheet music and the app grades the actual progress of the playing. It is this interface between the keyboard and the computer that makes this learning process so efficient and powerful.
Advantages:
- The parent does not need to know anything about music or playing the piano
- There’s a lesson plan (curriculum) that the student follows
- The lessons go to level six – this an advanced piano player
- Video tutorials teach the student how to play
- Reports can be accessed for any type of year-end review and homeschool reporting requirements

It is apparent in my daughter’s video how effective this app is. She is all smiles at the end of the piece. She asked the whole family to hear her play the song. As a homeschool dad that leans towards the unschooling approach (link to Wikipedia), this positive feedback will encourage her to keep playing and learning without me having to ask her to practice.
Maybe more important is my son’s practice. He is not nearly as enthusiastic. As a twelve-year-old boy, he can be all “thumbs” sometimes. Pianomarvel’s systematic approach lets him learn at his own pace. As long as he keeps finishing songs with a 100% score, I know he is progressing. The learning process always helps the student “level up” after each exercise. This app is a wonderful way for his brain and fingers to create added dexterity.
I’m in a Facebook Pianomarvel user group and I asked the question what do you like about Pianomarvel? One user replied that he likes it over the method book because the metronome blue bar helps keep time; the backing tracks make even simple songs sound great for a beginner player and the software recognized when a finger hits a wrong note.
Pianomarvel is great if you want to start lessons but don’t have the time to find a teacher in your area. If your son or daughter is not progressing with their lessons as quickly as expected or you don’t want to pay the prohibitively high cost of lessons for one or more kids. You need to sign up for a free one-month trial subscription. I use Pianomarvel and I am now a distributor because I like this program so much.
